After passing through more than one city/town/village with the same floor plan I recalled the plays and novels I've read with the town square as the centre. This is a photo from Stow-on-the-word. An amazingly quaint Georgian era village. I shivered as I remembered Caryl Churchill's 'Vinegar Tom' set in the witch burning era, as much of the 'action' takes place in the town square with the public humiliation and mutilation of women suspected of witch craft.
